Project Details

Project Name:  Disposal Area MOnitoring System Program
Main Client: U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New England District through the DAMOSVision Joint Venture
Date Started: December 2004
Date Completed:  On-going
Description: DAMOS (Disposal Area MOnitoring System) is a program begun in 1977 to manage and monitor offshore dredged material disposal sites from Long Island Sound to Maine. For more information on the project, see: http://www.nae.usace.army.mil/damos/index.asp
Some example projects by Exa include:
> Plan, collect, and summarize field data collected at the Field Verification Program (FVP) dredged material disposal mound in Long Island Sound, consisting of sediment profile image (SPI) and sediment chemistry samples.
> Evaluate different statistical methods to assess sources of dredged material based on sediment chemical and physical parameters.
> Evaluate methods for using field bioaccumulation of small “Stage I” organisms as an environmental monitoring tool, including an assessment of the accuracy of the TBP (theoretical bioaccumulation potential).
> Management of spatial and non-spatial data for long-term use of the monitoring program.
