Project Details

Project Name:  Los Angeles Contaminated Sediment Task Force Sediment and Storm Water Data Compilation and Documentation
Main Client: Southern California Coastal Water Research Project (SCCWRP)
Date Started: February 2002
Date Completed:  June 2005
Description: The Los Angeles Contaminated Sediment Task Force (CSTF) was created to develop sediment quality objectives for use in evaluation of contaminants in sediment and dredged material, as well as long-term evaluation of upstream sources in the watersheds of Southern California. Exa was responsible for the creation of a complex database structure that contained sediment and tissue chemistry, toxicity, benthic infaunal, and water quality data from both regional monitoring as well as dredged material characterization studies.
Exa’s tasks included:
> Creation of a graphical user interface (GUI) to help guide a lay user to query and export data (Enhanced Query Tool)
> Modification of a utility to enter, organize, and export metadata; each study that is included in the SQ Database also has a matching record in the metadata database
> Development and population of dredged material fate table linked to characterization data
> Conversion of all areas to points and GIS-compatible shape files
> Statistical analysis of toxicity significance information to a consistent standard of a control-based comparison
> Formalize a data entry utility that allows individual users to add new dredged material characterization data
